We are St Austell, alive with opportunity, innovation and adventure. Inspired by nature, driven by creativity. Rooted in our communities, shaped by our landscape with a social and economic purpose. We are outward looking, open to new ideas and opportunities, ready to contribute and compete on a global platform.
The Austell Project is an invitation to discover us afresh, to open your eyes to what St Austell and its hinterland are today. It sets out a challenge to reconsider what you thought you knew about St Austell.
The project seeks to enhance the landscape, transform public spaces, stimulate economic growth and promote pride in the local community by attracting new visitors, new residents and new investment – to make St Austell a great place to live, work and play.
The project area covers the Coastal Community Area that the Austell Project promotes and co-ordinates, including the entire St Austell Bay from the popular tourist destination of Fowey in the east to Tregony, Caerhays, Gorran, and Mevagissey to the south west, and the china clay area to the north and west.
The ambitious initiatives centre around themes, deep rooted within the fabric of St Austell’s heritage – horticulture and clay.
Many thanks to our funders and supporters without whom the Austell Project would not be possible. In particular we thank the Coastal Communities fund which awarded St Austell was awarded a £1 million contribution to transform the St Austell area as a visitor destination. The funding will support St Austell becoming a Green and Ceramic Cultural Centre including a programme of public realm cultural initiatives and events and skills training, to benefit residents and attract more visitors.
